  • The international airport for Amsterdam is called Schipol.

Catch the train at Schiphol to travel directly to Centraal Station. The NS train station is located directly below the terminal building. Take the escalator or lift downstairs and board the train. The train gets you to Amsterdam Centraal Station in 14-17 minutes. From Centraal you can take the Tram 12 or 2 just few stops directly to Prinsengracht.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi direct from Schipol to hotel which will take about 20 minutes.

  • Amsterdam is best explored by bike! More than likely your hotel will have bikes for rent on a first come first serve basis. You can also do daily rentals at many nearby locations, like Black Bikes. Avoid “commute” hour as the bike lanes are crowded. While bike lanes are safe and designated across the city, remember, bikes rule the streets. If you’re walking, be cautious as you cross streets.

  • Uber actively operates across the city. Lyft is not available in the Netherlands at this time. Note that driving around canals often takes much longer than walking or biking.

  • Is above ground, very easy. You can tap on, tap off with any Visa or Mastercard, or buy a time-based ticket once you get on the tram itself.

Tram rules: Not allowed to bring coffee/open drinks on board. You exit/enter out of certain doors (they’re marked). To get off you will need to press green button to open the door and tap out with your card or ticket.

  • Underground, less connected than the trams but very clean. Can also buy a ticket down inside the stations at kiosks.

Travel Tips

Credit Cards

While most credit cards are widely accepted (Visa, Mastercard) we recommend bringing another form of payment like a debit card or cash as certain locations will not accept American Express.

Hotel Rooms

It is common in Amsterdam for hotel rooms to have lofts with stairs leading to the bed. If you do not prefer this, be sure to ask for a room without stairs.

Reservation Timeline

We highly recommend making hotel reservations 4-6 months prior. Museum tickets 3-4 months prior and any restaurant reservations 1 month prior.
